The Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Eng. João Baptista Borges, embarked on a tour of the southern region of the country, beginning in the province of Cuanza Sul on December 11th. He was accompanied by notable figures such as the President of the PRODEL Board of Directors, Pedro Afonso, and of ENDE, Hélder Adão, along with the National Director of Waters, Elsa Ramos, and other senior officials from MINEA and associated companies. During the visit, various projects overseen by the sector in that area of the country were assessed.
The minister commenced the visit by inspecting electrification projects in southern Calulo, with the aim of providing electricity to the Vila da Quibala through the construction of a substation and distribution networks to benefit approximately 5,630 residents. Starting in January 2023, the project is currently 81% complete, with an anticipated completion date of August 2023. Additionally, the construction of a high-voltage substation connected to the National Grid, which began in 2023, was also visited, with a projected completion date for the following year. This project, currently 75% complete and employing 150 individuals directly, will ultimately benefit 28 communities in the region.
Minister Baptista Borges assessed the non-operational state of the Quibala Water Supply System, proposing that it should be rehabilitated to promptly serve thirty thousand people. While en route to the province of Huambo, the minister observed progress in the implementation of the first Transformation Posts (TPs) that will provide electricity to the mentioned communities.
