Top NGO organizes trade facilitation meeting between Türkiye, UK

On Wednesday, the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSIAD), a prominent Turkish nongovernmental organization (NGO), organized a roundtable at Britain’s House of Lords. This event served as a platform to discuss potential collaborations and strengthen economic ties between Turkey and the United Kingdom.

MÜSIAD, established in 1990, is a leading NGO in Turkey that represents the interests of over 10,000 industrialists and businessmen. The organization aims to promote the development of the Turkish economy and enhance the competitiveness of Turkish businesses in both domestic and international markets.

The roundtable, titled “Turkey-UK Economic Relations: Opportunities and Challenges,” was attended by distinguished guests from the UK and Turkey. The event was chaired by Lord Mohamed Sheikh, a member of the House of Lords, and included keynote speeches by MÜSIAD President Abdurrahman Kaan and British-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) President Emma Edhem.

During the roundtable, the speakers emphasized the strong economic ties between Turkey and the UK and discussed ways to further enhance cooperation. They also highlighted the potential for increased trade and investment between the two countries, especially in the fields of technology, energy, and infrastructure.

President Kaan stated, “Turkey and the UK have a long history of bilateral trade and investment. Our aim is to build on this strong foundation and take our economic relations to new heights. MÜSIAD is committed to creating a business-friendly environment and promoting the interests of Turkish businesses in the UK.”

Ms. Edhem also expressed her optimism about the future of Turkey-UK economic relations, saying, “The UK is one of the largest investors in Turkey, and we are keen to continue this trend. With Turkey’s growing economy and strategic location, there are ample opportunities for British businesses to invest and expand their operations in Turkey.”

The roundtable also served as a networking opportunity for the attendees to discuss potential partnerships and collaborations. The event was attended by representatives from various sectors, including finance, technology, energy, and construction. This provided a diverse platform for businesses to explore potential areas of cooperation and strengthen their ties.

Furthermore, the roundtable also highlighted the potential for increased tourism between the two countries. Turkey is a popular destination for British tourists, with over 2.5 million British visitors in 2019. With Turkey’s efforts to boost its tourism industry, there is immense potential for British businesses to invest in this sector and contribute to its growth.

The event also shed light on the measures taken by the Turkish government to improve the business climate and attract foreign investment. Turkey has implemented various reforms to simplify procedures for foreign investors and provide incentives for them to invest in the country. This has resulted in a significant increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in recent years, making Turkey an attractive destination for businesses.

The roundtable was concluded with a positive note, with both sides expressing their commitment to further enhance economic cooperation. The event served as a testament to the strong and friendly relations between Turkey and the UK and their mutual desire to strengthen their economic ties.

In conclusion, the roundtable organized by MÜSIAD at Britain’s House of Lords was a successful event that brought together business leaders from Turkey and the UK to discuss potential collaborations and strengthen economic ties. With the commitment and efforts of both sides, there is no doubt that the future holds immense potential for increased trade, investment, and tourism between these two countries.
