I Tried Jeans Designed For Women 5’4″ and Under – No Alterations Required

If you’re under 5’4″, you know the struggle of finding the perfect pair of jeans all too well. The constant search for the right fit and length can be exhausting and frustrating. But fear not, petite ladies, because Nelle Atelier is here to save the day. This fashion brand is specifically designed for women under 5’4″, making it a game-changer for those of us who have always struggled with finding the perfect pair of jeans.

Nelle Atelier was launched in November 2023 with a focus on jeans, but has since expanded to include other pants and outerwear, all with a petite fit in mind. As someone who stands at 5’2″, I have always been curious about this brand after seeing it on petite influencers and fashion editors on my Instagram feed. Jeans are a staple in my wardrobe, but the shopping process is always a journey. I have collected a few pairs that I love, but it’s never a quick, off-the-rack purchase. I often have to settle for “petite” or “short” lengths from more commercial brands, which limits my options in terms of sizing and color. And when it comes to higher-end denim brands, I either have to spend extra money at the tailor or nervously attempt to cut the jeans myself. It’s safe to say that finding the perfect pair of jeans has always been a struggle for me.

But then I discovered Nelle Atelier and their range of styles specifically designed for petite women. From straight-leg and boyfriend jeans to high-rise and low-rise silhouettes, they have something for everyone. I decided to put myself up for a challenge and try out a pair of jeans I wouldn’t normally reach for – the Nelle Atelier Lily Jean in Kohl ($268). I wanted to really put them to the test and see if they were worth the hype.

First things first, let’s talk about the brand. Nelle Atelier currently offers six different styles of jeans – The Lily Jean ($268), The Laura Jean ($278), The Claire Jean ($258), The Maddy Jean ($258), The Kate Jean ($238), and The Gabi Jean ($228). All of their jeans are made from Candiani denim, a sustainable material created by an Italian denim manufacturer. The fabric varies slightly depending on the style, with some being 100% cotton and others being 98% cotton and 2% elastane. The sizing ranges from 23 to 32, and the jeans should be machine-washed cold and hung to dry or tumbled dry on low. One of the standout features of Nelle Atelier is their “try before you buy” program, where you can order four pairs of jeans, try them on, and decide within seven days which ones you’d like to keep. This is a great option for those of us who struggle with finding the perfect fit.

Now, let’s get into my review of the Nelle Atelier Lily Jeans. As someone who has always been hesitant about the barrel-leg trend, I was a bit nervous to try these jeans. But I was pleasantly surprised by how flattering they were on my petite frame. I followed the brand’s recommendation and sized up one size, ordering a size 27, and they fit perfectly. The jeans are roomy enough for everyday wear, but also fitted and structured in all the right places. I love how versatile they are – they can be worn as regular, baggy jeans with sneakers or flats, or dressed up with heels for a more fashion-forward look. The denim fabric is also of high quality, and I appreciate that it’s 100% rigid cotton, which tends to be more durable and molds to the body over time.

However, there are a few things to consider before purchasing Nelle Atelier jeans. As the brand recommends, it’s important to take your measurements in advance to find the perfect fit. Make note of your waist and hip measurements and refer to the size chart for the specific style you’re interested in, as sizing can vary. Also, keep in mind that the inseam length of the Lily Jean is slightly shorter than some may prefer. But with different styles having different lengths, it’s important to consider your preferences when choosing your style.

If you’re interested in purchasing Nelle Atelier jeans, you can find them on the brand’s website or select styles at Nordstrom. Overall, I highly recommend giving these jeans a try if
